Growing up and as a young adult I found myself often suffering a runny nose, itchy eyes and a sore throat. Over time I found that my supposed 'hayfever' was partly the result of the many perfumes found in everyday body and skin care products. To help my children avoid the same suffering, I use as many natural products as possible. Here are a few you might like to try.

Deodorant – go crystal

Crystal sticks have been around for a while but it wasn’t until I saw a piece on ‘What’s Good for You’ that I tried them myself. I was very pleased to find that as long as I covered my underarm area well, the stick was most effective. When used with water the crystal stick leaves behind a layer of natural mineral, which prevents bacteria from forming with perspiration. You can use it after depilation and it lasts for over a year. Made from 100% natural mineral salts, you are assured of an unscented, effective deodorant. As it has no masking effect, it is important to wash thoroughly, which is easier if you depilate. As a side benefit, you won’t find it clashing with your perfume!! Crystal Stick is a locally available hypo-allergenic deodorant.

As an underarm deodorant the spray was not as effective as the stick for me, but acts well as a back up on hot days. Crystal Mist is an Australian product suitable for all over the body.

Crystal deodorant products are easily available in Australia in larger local supermarkets.

Skin and Hair Care – go Aesop

There are a few large international companies that produce skin care for sensitive skin, most of which I have tried. About two years ago a friend referred me to Aesop, which is an Australian product range that is now making quite a splash on the international market. These products are brilliant for people who like naturally scented products. When compared with similar ranges, such as Aveda, they are well priced and highly effective. I now use their skin and hair care range for the whole family and recommend them both for product and for their philosophy, which is charmingly available on every bottle.
