Right now it’s hard to work out when to introduce solid foods. Many books and commercial foods give 4 months as a guideline, but are they correct? No!

The World Health Organisation (WHO) commissioned an expert consultation on the “Optimal Duration of Exclusive Breastfeeding” in 2001. The report recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of your baby’s life. After this, it recommends that breastfeeding is continued while good quality food is introduced.
