Most pharmacies will have ovulation kits which you can use to
determine when you ovulate. However, if you would like to try for
yourself, the following information worked for me. From the first day of your period to the first day of the next period is one cycle. To figure out when you ovulate you first need to know how long your cycle is, For most women this cycle is around 28 days and the fertile section of the cycle is from 4 or 5 days before ovulation to 24 hours afterwards. You can tell if you are ovulating by looking for sticky, stringy mucous around the cervix. This ovulation test requires you to insert a finger and touch the cervix. The mucous should come out in long strands, clear to milky. This should happen around day 14 of your cycle, or about one week after your period finishes. So the most fertile days are for 3 days from the day before ovulation to and including the day after, or days 11 to 15 of the 28 day cycle. For those women who are not keen on this process, one suggestion is that you try to conceive every two days from 10 days after your period to 18 days. That time frame covers the variation of most women's cycles. **You may have noticed a couple of extra days before the ideal fertility period. The length of time of fertility is in part due to the life cycle of the sperm. Sperm live for 72 hours and so can be present before the egg leaves the ovary. The sperm may fertilise the egg during the time it moves down the fallopian tube towards the womb. Finally, you may also like to try our free online Ovulation Calculator. Good luck! Comments (0)
