While a professional should always be involved with serious illness, it's really hard to tell with a baby whether they are ill, teething or just tired.
In this section we'll be concentrating on natural methods of getting and staying well, and will also look at conventional medicinal treatments to find out how they work for you.
What medicine do you give your baby? Tell us what you like or don't and we'll publish the results.

You want to enjoy your baby but you just don't feel up to it. You’re
tired all the time, still feeling physically challenged and just can't
seem to get things done. Is this normal?

When I became pregnant with my first child, I started thinking seriously about the products I used. What was the toll of chemicals I used during bathing, in my hair and especially during those fume-ridden cleaning sessions that left me feeling woozy? What was the point of eating well if I then covered myself with chemicals? Suddenly I was also thinking of doing my bit to ensure the world still has good resources for my children and their children. I also worried about how to keep my adventurous bub from cleaning product experimentation. In short, how can you be sure that your house is clean and safe for the little ones? Read on for a great solution.

Growing up and as a young adult I found myself often suffering a runny nose, itchy eyes and a sore throat. Over time I found that my supposed 'hayfever' was partly the result of the many perfumes found in everyday body and skin care products. To help my children avoid the same suffering, I use as many natural products as possible. Here are a few you might like to try.

Because babies are developing so quickly and because their bodies are sensitive to pollution and toxic chemicals such as pesticide residue, it is especially important that their food is as toxin free and as nutritious as possible. A baby consumes more as a percentage of its body weight than an adult, and their physiology is not yet fully developed to deal with toxins. Home made is of course always best, however when this is not possible there are alternatives. There are several organic food companies that market their products in Australia. Among these are Bellamy's Organic Farms, Babynat, Holle, and Heinz.

The debate on organic food becomes far more important when raising a family. Being pregnant, feeding your baby first foods, keeping well with children attending child care and school, all of these become paramount - Ed.
There are now plentiful research findings that
show that organic food - fruits, vegetables and grains - are far superior in
vitamin, mineral and nutrient content, whilst, at the same time, are much lower
or missing the harmful herbicide, fungicide, pesticide and artificial
fertilizer chemicals that are present in non-organic produce. They are
especially higher in antioxidants, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, calcium, and
phosphorus, and lower in nitrates, and pesticide
residues. Studies have shown that organically grown produce has less
significantly lower levels of mercury than that grown by chemical farming
methods.

Until our little ones came along we didn’t think
about eating organic food. It’s expensive and was hard to get. Then when we
needed to feed our son his first food, it started to hit home. We decided to
make the food where we could and to choose organic pure foods like Bellamy’s
organic food as his porridge and Only Organics for travel. We stayed away from
mixed foods such as Heinz and began to buy fresh organics.
